GLOUCESTER: Eleanor May Nunes, 92, formerly of Concord Street, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009 in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Gloucester on January 26, 1917 she was the daughter of the late Manuel A. and Emma W. (Newman) Nunes. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1934.
Eleanor was employed at LePages, Inc. in Gloucester for twenty–seven years before retiring as a supervisor in 1977. She had also once worked as a chambermaid at the Captain’s Lodge Motel and as an aircraft instrument inspector at the General Electric Company in Lynn during World War II. She was a Past-President of the Chemical Worker’s Union and enjoyed needlework, crafts, gardening and collecting thimbles. She had a great sense of humor.
She is survived by two nephews, Bob Kessen and his wife, Pamela Roberts of Brattleboro, VT and Ian and his wife, Sue Kessen of Plainfield, NJ, her niece, Andrea and her husband, Bill Reardon of Seymour, CT and a brother-in-law, Rollie Dyment and his daughters, Jill and Karen, cousins include Louise Grace Lewis of Dover, NH and Joe Grace of Gloucester. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Helen Kessen, Mildred Nunes, Evelyn Nunes and Dorothy Dyment and a brother, Edgar Nunes.
Her funeral service will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery, W. Gloucester on Monday at 12:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
