Taunton, John A. Allen, a Taunton resident, died Wednesday, June 17th 2009 at the Taunton Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness. He was 86 years of age. He was the husband of Garnett (Smith) Allen. He was born in Anderson, Indiana. Son of the late James Harold Allen and Eudora (George) Allen. Prior to his retirement, he was the executive vice president of the Commonwealth Shoe and Leather Company for 30 years. He attended high school in Indiana. Prior to moving to Taunton he lived in Pawley’s Island South Carolina. He also lived for a period of time in Hingham, Ma. In his younger years, he belonged to the first Presbyterian Church of Greenville, Ohio. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and belonged to the Pawley’s Island Lodge 409 A.F. & A.M. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Cohasset Country Club. Besides his wife, he leaves one son Scott Allen of Bridgewater and the late John Allen III. He leaves one step brother Richard Williams of Muncie, Indiana. He also leaves two grandchildren, Patrick and Courtney. Funeral Services will be private for family only. Cremation will follow service.
