Obituary

Mrs. Mary Lou Ward Towns, 88, died Monday, June 15, at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.

Mrs. Towns was born in Telfair County , March 28, 1921 to James Weaver Ward and Willie Mae Harper Ward. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Towns, sisters, Lola Deal, Lois Bass, Eunice Hulett, and Lillian Sanders, and brothers, Oscar Ward and Irving Ward.

Mrs. Towns was employed with Roydon Wear, Inc., in McRae, retiring in 1980 after 25 years. In 1981, she moved to Fitzgerald, GA to be near her daughter. She continued to be very active, working with the Coastal Plains Authority and later at Wal-Mart for ten years as a door greeter.

She was a member of Crossview Baptist Church and was active as long as her health permitted. Her hobbies were crocheting, quilting and reading.

Survivors include her son, Lonnie Towns of McRae; daughter Carol (Larry) Johnson of Fitzgerald; two granddaughters, Jeannie (James) Spires of McRae and Tracey (Curt) Vickers of Ambrose; three great-grandchildren, Blayne and Kori Spires and Micajah Vickers; sisters, Gussie Hamlin of Macon, Jackie McCollough of Jacksonville, Fl; and brother, Roger Ward of Rhine, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00P.M., Wednesday, June 17, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, with Reverends Alvin Lewis and Barry Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in the Midway Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 7:00-9:00.
