WORCESTER-Sotir Andoni, 78 of 545 Salisbury Street, died Saturday, July 19th in UMass Memorial Healthcare, University Campus. He leaves his wife Jorgjia (Laco) Andoni, 2 sons Piro Andoni of Worcester and Maqo Andoni of Korca, Albania, a daughter Fanika Kote of Worcester, 3 brothers Thanas, Ilo and Manol Andoni all of Korca, Albania, 2 sisters Neta Konomi and Mati Papa both of Tirana, Albania and 5 grandchildren, nephews and a niece.
He was born in Korca, Albania the son of Thoma and Fana (Karanxha) Andoni and came to Worcester in 1997. Mr. Andoni was a well known author in Albania publishing over 30 novels and non fiction short stories, many being translated into German, French and Italian. One of his books later was made into a movie. He was a member of the Academy of Arts in Albania.
The funeral will be Tuesday, July 22nd, from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday, July 21st, from 6:00 until 9:00 PM. A trisagion service will be held Monday, July 21st, at 6:00 PM in the funeral home.
