Obituary

Joe Joseph passed into eternal rest on June 11, 2009 after a long illness. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Alice Joseph of Middletown CT.

He is survived by his children Mary Jane Greenleaf of Norwich, Michael Joseph (Valerie) of Mystic, Marjorie Dutka (Alan) of Oakdale, Marilyn Butler (John) of New London, Harold "Little Joe" Joseph (Brooke) of Marco Island, FL and his 4 grandchildren Dan Butler, Megan Brown (Jay), Matthew and Melanie Joseph.

Joe was born in Madawaska ME and is predeceased by 5 siblings: O'Dell Reuther, Romeo Joseph, Loretta Trittle, Armand Joseph and Camillian Joseph of Lewiston, ME.

Joe is a 30 year veteran of the United States Navy where he retired in 1976. He served during the Viet Nam and Korean Conflict era. 22 years of his naval career was spent in submarine service. After his retirement from the Navy he worked at Pratt & Whitney and then Electric Boat where he retired in 1991.

Joe was an active member of the Shoreline 50s Plus Dance Club for 15 years. Until his illness Joe was also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the New London County Ostomy Association. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Fleet Reserves and the Retired Armed Forces Association.

Joe's family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 6-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Rd. on Wednesday at 10am. Burial with presentation of military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut.
