Obituary

Beverly "Bev" A. Fallon; 69, died on June 10th at her home surrounded by her loving family. She had fought a long battle with cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years Harold (Hap) Fallon, her sons James W. Philbrick and Michael J. Philbrick, her brothers Joe Hickey and Jerry Hickey and 11 grandchildren; Ottilie, Hudson, Veronica, Taylor, Jacob, Thane, Soren, Eliza, Cormac, Eammon and Owen Daniel. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews, all of them being her favorite, and many extended family and friends.

Bev was predeceased by her sister Cathleen Zwierzynski and her parents Joseph and Helen Hickey.

She was born and raised in Binghamton N.Y. and lived most of her life in Old Mystic and Ledyard, but also in Key West Florida, Groton CT., Virginia Beach Virginia, and Hawaii. After graduating from Harper College in Binghamton she taught elementary school grades 1-3 in Groton. Several years were spent raising her boys then she went back to school in Virginia to become a computer analyst. This led her to work at several area companies including The Community Service Credit Union, Tracor, A+T and Court Square Data Group.

Bev loved music and was a member of St. David’s Choir, The Julie Singers and the Mystic River Chorale. For several years she played the bassoon. She loved flowers which made toiling in the garden a joy. “Give her flowers, that’s always a good start.” she would tell her boys. She loved animals so there were always some in her home, some of them rescued but all with a story. She loved children and volunteered to help the ones that could benefit from her time and patience. Bev was very creative and artistic and for many years made items to benefit the St. David’s Christmas Bazaar. Her eye for color and design was most apparent in her home which she and Hap transformed into what it is today.

Bev and Hap were blessed with many chances to travel, locally and abroad. They explored many of the places she had always longed to go. Ireland was a favorite because of her heritage and many countries of Europe were seen on several trips. Just to get out was enjoyable for her though. Whether it was biking or walking on the beach or driving in search of antiques she relished these little adventures. No matter where she was or what she was doing good food was always in the equation.

There will be a service to celebrate her life on Sat. June 20, 2009 at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Gales Ferry at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or a charity of choice
