James A. Petti, 85, Retired Sales Executive, Brockton Native.
James A Petti, 85, formerly of Brockton died Friday at the Brockton Hospital after a brief illness.Mr. Petti was born in Brockton on July 9,1918, son of the late Celestino and Santina (Ferrara) Petti and husband of Lillian (Metivier-Boryszewski) Petti and the late Louise (Donovan) Petti. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1936 and resided in Brockton for 77 years. He began working with his father at C. M. Petti's Meat Market at the age of 16 and was later joined by his sisters Rose and Geneva and brother Charlie at the market. He remained in the family business for 24 years.
He then began a career insales with the Franklin and Perkins Paper Company in its early years and pioneered innovative marketing strategies for the company. He retired from Perkin's Paper after 30 years of distinguished service.
Mr. Petti was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, an active member of the Brockton High School Class Reunion Committee, and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church.His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. He was an avid reader, lifelong student of history, an accomplished amateur painter and writer. He was a man who was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Louise Cosato of Plympton, Amelia(O'Malley) Nordstrom of Newburyport, James A. Petti Jr. of West Los Angeles CA., Gary Petti of East Bridgewater, and Bill Petti of Lakeville; his sisters Rose Andrews.and Geneva Smith both of Brockton; a brother Dr. Michael Petti of Venice,FL.; sons-in law; Thomas E. Cosato, Robert Nordstrom and the late Thomas C. O’Malley, his daughters-in-law; Kathleen Petti, Kelly Petti, and Lynne Petti; 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Amelia (Moran) Hustler and C. M. "Charlie" Petti, Jr .
Visitng hours Monday 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass Tuesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10 am.
