NEW BEDFORD — Irene (McGowen) Talbot, age 92 years, of New Bedford, died Saturday June 6, 2009, at home after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Alphonse Talbot.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late William and Hanna (Southworth) McGowen, she lived in this community all of her life. An active member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church and its organizations, she ran the church thrift shop for many years, was an avid reader and a former member of the Fisherman's Wives Club.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Talbot; her daughters, Linda Wordell and twins, Patricia Lopes and Pamela Talbot; and a sister, Marjorie Kummer.
Private services were held under the direction of the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., NB.
It is suggested remembrances be made in her name to St. Martin's Church, 136 Rivet St., NB 02740 or the charity of one's choice.
