Jesup- Mrs. Juanita Burton “Nana” Appling, 87, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was born in Columbus, Georgia, and had lived in Marietta most of her life and in Maryville, Ohio before returning to Wayne County. She had worked as a medical and dental assistant and later retired from Travelers Insurance Company. She was a former member of Jesup First United Methodist Church and attended the United Methodist Women’s Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Appling.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Gay Nix of Jesup, and Nancy and Preston Burrell of Marysville, Ohio; one brother, William S. Burton of Lilburn; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the James Gordon Memorial Chapel of Howard-Jones-Nobles Funeral Home with Rev. Tucker Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, June 12, from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
