Obituary

Daniel J. Farren, a 38 year resident of Norwood and formerly of Charlestown and Jamaica Plain, died on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Harrington House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walpole following a short illness with cancer. He was 77 years old.

Danny was born in Boston on November 7, 1931. He grew up in Jamaica Plain where he attended Blessed Sacrament Parochial School, he attended Boston College High School for one year, then entered Boston English High School where he graduated in 1949. He moved to Charlestown at the age of 17. He enlisted into the United States Army on October 14, 1952 and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on September 16, 1954 with the rank of Corporal. Danny began working for the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and worked there for more than 30 years. He retired in 1993. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 722 of Jamaica Plain.

Danny is the beloved husband of 47 years to Mary M. (Conlon) Farren. He is the devoted father of Mary Ann Tobin and her husband Michael of Waterford, Ireland, Daniel J. Farren of Norwood and Kevin M. Farren and his wife Kathleen of Salem. He is the loving Grandad to Roisin and Mary Tobin. He is the beloved son of the late Daniel P. and Rose (Devlin) Farren. He is the beloved brother of Anna Doris and her husband John "Bud" of Pocasset, Alice Mortali and her husband Fred of Revere, Kathleen Whelan and her husband Eugene "Buddy" of Charlestown, Grace Campbell and her husband Daniel of Charlestown, Eileen Sullivan and her husband James of Billerica and the late James and Bernard Farren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Danny's Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 8 a.m. from The Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 549 Washington Street, Norwood, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
