Helen J. (Eastman) Ellis, 84 of Worcester, formerly of Franklin died June 7 in the Odd Fellows Home in Worcester after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the wife of the late George H. Ellis for 51 years until his death in 1997.
Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, March 8, 1925, the daughter of the late Harold and Mary Jean (Chandler) Eastman, Mrs. Ellis had lived her early years in New Hampshire and Florence, Mass. She moved to Franklin in 1934 and lived there until 1998.
Mrs. Ellis lived with her daughter, Charlene in Worcester until moving into Whitcomb House in 2002, then moving into the Odd Fellows Home in 2006.
Mrs. Ellis was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended secretarial school in Boston.
On December 30, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart while he was home on leave from the Navy.
Mrs. Ellis had worked in the loan department of the Ben Franklin Savings Bank for many years.
She was a longtime member of the Franklin Federated Church and had been active in the Women’s Union.
She loved music, reading and traveling with her late husband.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Huggan of Dowling Park, Fla., Diane Ducharme of Mendon and Charlene Mitchell of Dudley.
She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Williams, Peggy Colt and Sally Meyers all of Florida.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in Union Street Cemetery in Franklin.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
