Obituary

Mary Phyllis “Billie” (Coe) Fry, 87, of Plymouth, died on Friday June 5th at Newfield House in Plymouth. She was the wife of the late Russell Thurston “Toke” Fry who died in 2007. They had been married for 65 years. Born July 8, 1921 in Dover, NH, Billie was the daughter of the late Rev. Robert W. Coe and Ellen Thomas (Jackson) Coe. She graduated from Beaver Country Day School and Bradford Junior College with the class of 1942. Billie lived most of her married life in Plymouth where she was an active volunteer in numerous associations. She was a long-time member and president of the Jordan Hospital Club, and served on the hospital’s board of directors. She was a president of the Plymouth Antiquarian Society and for many years organized its annual fair. Billie was also active in the Church of the Pilgrimage, the Black and White Club, the Eel River Beach Club, and the Plymouth Yacht Club. In addition, she served for many years as a volunteer in the Plymouth schools and supported the Rotary Club international student program. She is survived by her son, Dr. Russell T. Fry III and his wife Ruth of Plymouth; four daughters, Cynthia Pyle and her husband Christopher of South Hadley, Ellen Botelho and her husband Joel, of Plymouth; Kathleen Birdsey and her husband Robert of Henniker, NH, and Dorothy Martinson and her husband Bruce of Brunswick, ME. Billie was a devoted grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by 2 brothers, Robert and Frederick and her beloved sister, Kathleen “Kakie” Walters. She also leaves many nieces and nephews scattered throughout the country. She will be greatly missed by many friends and generations of family for her loving kindness and sweet disposition. Burial will be private at a later date.
