Martinez, GA. – Bennie J. Thompson, 84, beloved husband of the late Velma Thompson, entered into rest Thursday June 5, 2009 at Doctor’s Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday June 8, 2009 at West Acres Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Army where he received 3 Purple Hearts, he was a veteran of WWII and a POW. He was a founding member of West Acres Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Charlotte Cooper and her husband Tommy, two grandchildren, Tony Cooper and his wife Tara, and Jason Cooper, two great-grandchildren, Krista, Karighan, and Riley Cooper, two brothers, John and David Thompson, four sisters, Annabelle Seago, Ruby Hollie, Gladys Howard, Bertha Jay, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mary Thompson, R.A. Thompson, Bessie Mae Hobbs, Lucille Phillips, Jean Burton,William Thompson, Edward Thompson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Love I and Love II Sunday School Class at West Acres Baptist Church.
The family will also be receiving friends at Bennies home.
