Lawrence Turner, age 61, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the UT Cancer Institute in Grenada, MS. Born December 14, 1947 in Yalobusha County, MS, he was a son of Clayton and Elsie Person Turner. He had worked for the Water Valley Dept. of Housing and was a member of Sander’s Chapel MB Church in Water Valley, MS.
The service will take place Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Pastor Mitchell Steen officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seven Oaks. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley, MS with Sherman Gooch, Tommy Turner, James Cooper, Jermaine Gooch, Ray Avant, and Joel Turner serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Jane Turner of Rock Island, IL; a daughter, Tennillua Turner of Davenport, IA, a son, Lawrence A. Turner of Rock Island, IL; a step son, Michael Kelly of Rock Island, IL; four sisters, Lucille Joseph and Ora Mae Kerr, both of Water Valley, MS and Ona Mae Wright and Bernice (William) Willingham, both of Davenport, IA; one brother, Robert (Evelyn) Turner of Water Valley, MS; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Turner Hawkins and six brothers, Johnny Turner, J. C. Turner, Joe Turner, Clayton Turner, R. D. Turner, and Claude Turner
