Obituary

Edward D. Tiernan, Jr., 72, of Londonderry, NH, died Monday, June 1, 2009 at his home. Mr. Tiernan was born in Boston, MA on June 29, 1936, son of the late Edward D. and Anna Rose (Pauline) Tiernan. He was a resident of Londonderry for the past 32 years, formerly living in Salem, NH. Mr. Tiernan grew up in Revere, MA and graduated from Revere High School. He later graduated from Northern Essex Community College. Mr. Tiernan co-owned Golden Belt Cab Co. in Boston, driving cab in Boston for 17 years. He also worked as a security guard with his K9 partner for Pinkerton, Inc. for 25 years. He was a member of Toastmasters and enjoyed public speaking. Mr. Tiernan was a life member of the NRA, enjoyed history, especially Egyptology, WWII as well as Greek and Roman Mythology. He had a great sense of humor and was a thoughtful, caring man. Mr. Tiernan was a “dad” to anyone who needed one and never missed an event for his kids. He was a non-conformist who was extremely devoted to his family. He loved being a father, but more importantly, he was a dad.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Katherine A. (deBettencourt) Tiernan of Londonderry, three children, Elizabeth K. Tiernan of Hudson, NH; John Victor Tiernan and his wife Erin of Oak Bluffs, MA and SSG Michael P Moynagh of Ft. Devens, MA; and by two cousins, William Fisk, Jr. of Okinawa, Japan and Douglas Fisk of Chapel Hill, NC. He was predeceased by his father in 1990 and by his mother earlier this year.

Visiting hours were held on Friday, June 5, 2009 from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A memorial service followed Friday at 1pm in the funeral home. The burial was in Pillsbury Cemetery, Londonderry. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the MSPCA-Angell - Martha's Vineyard Care and Adoption Center, Vineyard Haven Road, Edgartown, Massachusetts 02539.
