Obituary


BOSTON — William K. Tinkham, age 93 years, of Beacon Hill, Boston and formerly of New Bedford, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at home. He was the husband of Caroline (Brown) Tinkham.

A retired Professor Emeritus of English History, he was a graduate of Boston, Harvard and Oxford Universities, and taught at Univ. Mass-Boston, Boston State College, Tufts Univ., and Lasell Junior College.

An active member of The Church of the Advent on Beacon Hill, he served his church as Vestryman, Junior Warden, Archivist and Master of Ceremonies. Listed in "Who's Who" of American Scholars, he was a member of the Descendants of the Mayflower Society, N.E. Genealogical Society, The Boston Anthenaeum, The Harvard Club, Phi Alpha Theta. He was also a member of many learned societies and college alumni associations, and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion Post #166 in Fairhaven.

Active in his youth in Grace Episcopal Church in NB, he was a member of the Old Dartmouth Historical Society and formerly a member of the N. B. Yacht Club and the Wamsutta Club.

A High Mass of Requiem will take place on Wednesday the 3rd of June 2009, at The Church of the Advent, 30 Brimmer St., Boston at 11 A.M., followed by burial in the family plot in River-side Cemetery, Fairhaven.
