Morris Owens, 54, of Mystic, Georgia, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, May 31 at Big Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne McCrimmon and Rev. Jack Perrin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Owens was born October 21, 1954 in Irwin County to Lillie Lugene Paulk Owens and the late W.A. “Bill” Owens. He was a brick mason and dry wall mechanic who lived in the community most of his life. Mr. Owens was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Owens is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Shane & Mandy Owens of Enigma and Benji & Beth Owens of Atlanta; daughter, Ashley Owens of Enigma; 5 grandchildren; mother, Gene P. Owens of Douglas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Camilla Mancil of Mystic, Debbie & Larry Gurr of Douglas, Nina & Carroll Whitley of Fitzgerald, Faye & Bill Busbin and Mildred & J.L. Goodman all of Ocilla; brothers and sisters-in-law, Troy & Bernadette Owens of Ocilla, Herman & Patricia Owens of Irwinville and Albert Owens of Ocilla as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters.
