Obituary

Jane E. Easttey, 72, of Abington, a retired FDA Inspector and Kirwin Surgical Regulatory Affairs Officer, died Wednesday May 27th in her home after a short illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter E. Easttey.

Born in Charlestown she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Coughlin) Murphy, and a graduate of Charlestown High School and Northeastern University.

Mrs. Easttey served in the United States Food and Drug Administration from 1965 to 1995. She moved her way up from a secretary to Inspector over her thirty year career. After her retirement from government service she took a position with the Kirwin Surgical Company in Marshfield where she helped create a regulatory affairs and quality control process.

Mrs. Easttey was an active member of the Abington community and served on the Finance Committee, Board of Health, and Conservation Commission. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Abington Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. She was a communicant of Saint Bridget Church and enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Joan Howell-Egan of Braintree, Fred Howell of Abington, and Mike Howell of Upton, her step-children Walter K. Easttey of Rockland, Rev. Thomas E. Easttey of New York, Theresa Reynolds of Bridgewater, and Denise Whittey of Nashville, TN, her sisters Sheila Leahy of Rockland, Nancy Kelly of Abington, Carol Cardella of Beverly, and Rose Stockman of Franklin, her brothers Tom Murphy of Ocala, FL and Harry Murphy of Brockton. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held Monday June 1 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a mass at 9 AM in Saint Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours will be held Sunday May 31 from 4 – 8 PM. Donations in her name may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
