Joe Richard Veal, 71, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the Carl Vinson V.A. Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday, May 26, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Veal was born August 26, 1937, in Hazlehurst, Georgia to the late Joe F. and Lettie Plymer Veal. He served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. He was a mechanic with the City of Fitzgerald and worked with W. L. Patterson. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a loving father and grandfather.
Mr. Veal is survived by his children and their spouses: Joey Veal, Janet Leonard, William (Mary Ann) Veal, Charles (Mary) Veal, and Sean Veal, all of Fitzgerald; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Pat Dunbar and Sear (Gene) Hurt of Fitzgerald. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
