Earl Leonard “Lennie” O’Connell, 76, died Thursday, May 21, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was the husband of 46 years of Virginia T. (Sargo) O’Connell. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was raised and educated in Cape Breton. He was a Veteran of the US Army. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 43 years. Prior to moving to the United States, he worked in Coal Mine #16 in Cape Breton. Mr. O’Connell worked as a pressman for Allied Container Company in Dedham for over 30 years. He retired in 1999. He was a member of the Stoughton Irish American Society. An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, in his free time, he enjoyed watching boxing and reading non fiction books.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lennie O’Connell Jr. of Stoughton, Maria Unda and her husband Richard of Bridgewater, Tonia O’Connell and Colleen Joyce and her husband David all of Stoughton. He was the brother of Joan Beaton of NY, Frank O’Connell of Canada, Clarence O’Connell of FL, William O’Connell of Norwood, Fred O’Connell and Kevin O’Connell both of Wrentham and the late Gerald “Bo” O’Connell. He was the grandfather of Kyle McKinnon, Kasey McKinnon, Colleen Unda, Joseph Unda, Colin Joyce and Liam Joyce. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Wednesday, May 27 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in Lennie's name may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01721.
