MILLBURY__Virginia M. (Berry) Otis, of Millbury, passed on peacefully into eternal life after a short illness on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in Radius Healthcare of Worcester. She would have celebrated her 91st birthday on May 28, 2009.
Virginia is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Albert A. Otis, who entered into eternal life on February 9, 2009. She is survived by her son, Richard Otis and his wife, Jean of Leominster, MA., a daughter, Carol A. Avedisian and her husband, James of Millbury, who were her loving and devoted caregivers and a granddaughter, Virginia M. Avedisian of Connecticut. Virginia was born on May 28 1918, in Tacoma, Washington, the youngest child of Jack and Angelina Berry. She was predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters. Virginia was a proud graduate of Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA. After raising her family, she was employed by Lundquist Tool & Mfg., Woolworth Co., and the City of Worcester, retiring after 12 years as a Principal Clerk in the Veterans Service Department. Virginia met her husband, Albert while he was in the Army stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, where after 3 months, they were engaged and married on April 4, 1945. They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on April 4, 2009. Virginia shared in Albert’s membership in the Lithuanian Naturalization Club in Worcester where they enjoyed Polka music, dancing and Polish picnics. They also enjoyed dancing weekly at the PNI Club in Worcester. Since her granddaughter was named after her, Virginia was known to her granddaughter as “Grandma Me”. Grandma Virginia shared her love of baking, cooking , sewing and making dolls with her cherished granddaughter, “Little Virginia”. Virginia was a long time member of Sacred Heart Church in Worcester and later upon moving to Millbury, St. Brigid’s Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who will be sadly missed by family and friends. She was a devoted Catholic who loved God and her family. While she was able, she attended Mass regularly. When she could no longer attend, she watched Mass everyday on TV and prayed the Rosary every day.
The family would like to extend thanks to the many wonderful people at Radius Healthcare of Worcester, for the excellent care and compassion shown to her, especially, Dr. James Walsh and the staff and residents of the 5th floor.
It was Virginia's wish that the funeral arrangements would be private. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery next to her husband Albert. A private Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date. The family asks that you please remember Virginia in your prayers and that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in her name to Radius Healthcare Activity Department, 119 Providence Street, Worcester, MA., 01604.
