Brother of the late Frances Allbright Colleton and George Stuart Allbright. Uncle of Susan Colleton of Sturbridge, Jeffrey Allbright of Meredith, NH and Meredith Allbright of Bangor, ME.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the graveside celebration in Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Sea St., Quincy Monday at 11:30 AM.
Mr. Allbright earned his Bachelor's and Masters from MIT where he was a member of Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and ran track for the college as well.
He worked as a chemical engineer for Lever Brothers in New Jersey during the 1950's. He had registered patents in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain.
He loved sailboat racing and was a member of the Squantum Yacht Club. This past week, he was featured in a Patriot Ledger article regarding his winning of the silver sailing trophy commisioned by tea magnate-yachtsman Sir Thomas J. Lipton in 1930. He also raced in Indian Class at the Quincy Bay and Marblehead Race Weeks with his boat "Asseo".
Another passion in his life was harness racing. At his farm in Richmond, ME he bred standard bred trotters and pacers and raced throughout New England.
He was a politically involved and aware man who was known as a scholar and a gentleman. In March of 2003, he was honored by the Massachusetts House of Representatives in recognition of his "dedication to the Massachusetts Bay Yacht Club and the sailing program throughout the Commonwealth." The commendation was signed by Speaker of the House, Thomas Finneran and was offered by Bruce T. Ayers, State Representative. Even at 93, Mr. Allbright was delighted with the honor.
He was an amazing man and lived his life with a quiet dignity that underscored everything he did. He embraced ethics and values not common in contemporary society.
