Obituary

Joe Wall, 85, of Florence, widower of Mildred Dupree Wall died Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Joe was the eldest of seven children. He was born April 20, 1924, in Coosawhatchie, South Carolina, to Rebecca and Harry Wall. Joe attended school in Beaufort, South Carolina and the Roosevelt Trade Training Center where he trained to be a sheet metal worker. He went to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1941 until he was drafted into the United States Navy in October 1943, during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to work at the shipyard until January 1950. Joe then went to work as a Charleston City Police Officer until he returned to the shipyard in July 1962, which is where he remained until his retirement in January 1983. Joe married the love of his life, Mildred Dupree Wall on December 24, 1950. He and Mildred were happily married for 52 years until she passed away September 2002. Joe joined and became a Master Mason in 1947; moreover, he has, at one time or another, held every chair with in that organization. Joe later joined and became a member of the Eastern Star in 1995. He thoroughly enjoyed attending meetings whenever possible. Joe lived in Charleston, South Carolina until July 2008, when he moved to Florence. Joe never met a stranger and he became quite fond of the staff and his neighbors at Elmcroft of Florence.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 3 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Hwy.17-A, Moncks Corner.
Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1 o’clock until the hour of service.
Surviving are:
3 sons: James Michael Dupree Wall of Cross, Joseph Wayne Wall of Cross and Jeffrey Allen Wall of Tennessee.
1 daughter: Julie wall Hilton of Florence.
6 grandchildren: Eric D. Wall, Joseph Michael Wall, Melody Beth Wall, April Marie Wall, Christina Marie Hightower and Tori Paige Hilton
2 great grandchildren: Devyn Wayne Stinson and Lauryn Stinson
1 sister: Betty Salisbury of Moncks Corner
3 brothers: William Wall, Norris Wall both of James Island and Rev. Paul W. Wall of Marion, SC.
