TEWKSBURY - Einar J. Nielsen, 83, a longtime resident of Tewksbury, died Wednesday, May 20th at Radius Northwood in Lowell. He was the husband of the late Jane P. (Bocko) Nielsen, who died in 2001.
He was born in N. Billerica on December 15, 1925, and he was the son of the late Seward and Alma (Hanson) Nielsen. He received his education in Billerica schools and he was a graduate of Howe High School in Billerica.
Mr. Nielsen served his country as an Aviation Radioman for the United States Navy during World War II.
Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed by the former New England Telephone for 32 years in various capacities, most recently as a cableman.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the light of his life.
He was a member of the Pelham American Legion, Post 100 and of it's Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Billerica VFW, Post 2597 and the Freemasons.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. Nielsen Sr., and his wife Linda of Dracut; a daughter, Karen J. Nielsen-Silva of Lowell; three grandchildren, Eric Nielsen and his wife Carrie of Mansfield, Victoria Dombrowski and her husband Stephen of Dracut, and Robert E. Nielsen Jr., of Dorchester; two great grandchildren, Nathan Dombrowski of Dracut, and Christian Nielsen of Mansfield; a brother-in-law, Fred Bocko and his wife Roberta of Port St. Lucie, FL; four sisters-in-law, Helen Bocko of Tewksbury, Ruth Bocko of Sharon, and Helen Bocko of Springfield, VT, and Dorothy Bocko of FL; his cousins Herman Hanson and his wife Shirley of Pelham, NH, Herbert Hanson of Port Charlotte, FL; and the wife of the late Leonard Hanson, Marcia Hanson of Dummer, NH; many nieces and nephews; and many close friends including Linda Machado and Izzy Farmer, both of Lowell, and Dennis Abrams of Billerica, who all, along with his family were with him in the final hours of his life. He was also the brother of the late Clayton Nielsen and Erna Nielsen.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Monday from 4 until 8 PM. His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM in the funeral home. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury. For online condolences please use the icon below.
