Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" (Walsh) Vera, 69, of Fairhaven died Tuesday July 8, 2003 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin from complications related to chronic lung disease. She was the wife of Lawrence C. Vera, to whom she was married for nearly 48 years.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late James J. and Agnes (McGrath) Walsh, she had lived in New Bedford until moving to Shrewsbury in 1972, where she lived for 25 years. She had resided in Fairhaven since 1997.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Fairhaven.

Mrs. Vera was formerly employed as a cost analyst for Allmerica Financial in Worcester for 25 years until her retirement.

She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, playing cards, dining out, traveling to Foxwoods Casino, and painting still-life watercolors. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School.

Survivors include her husband; 2 daughters, Patricia L. Tassone, and her husband James, of New Berlin, Wisconsin, and Carol A. Vincent and her husband Joseph of Dracut; a son, Steven L. Vera, and his wife Kim, of Vernon, Conn.; 4 sisters, Alice C. Walsh and Joan M. Vlcek, both of New Bedford, Catherine W. Perkins of Fairhaven, and Margaret Bancroft, and her husband David, of Mattapoisett; her mother-in-law, Mary Vera of New Bedford; a sister-in-law, Vivian Page of New Bedford; 8 beautiful grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and numerous friends.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordMonday July 14, 2003 at 9 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Main Street, Fairhaven at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday July 13, 2003 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven.
