Leo S. Jencyowski, 83

Leo S. Jencyowski, 83, of Norton formerly of Roslindale and Cambridge passed away on Monday May 18, 2009 in the presence of his loving family at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of Irene L. (Julio) Jencyowski to whom he was wed to on October 8, 1950.
Born in Cambridge, MA on April 21, 1926 he was a son of the late Frank and Bernadette (Stravinski) Jencyowski.
Leo grew up and was educated in Cambridge. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal on July 6, 1946 and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.
Mr. Jencyowski was a retired Warehouse Manager and had worked for many years at Foxboro Electric Supply in North Attleboro prior to retiring. He had formerly worked at the Spencer Shoe Co. in Boston and was also a former Independent Carpenter and Painter and was a friendly figure when working at Wallpaper City in Mansfield.
Leo had resided in Norton for the past 36 years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. He treasured the times spent with his family and especially those with his grandchildren. He enjoyed the company of family pets Sydney, Keidan and Taz, working in his yard and had anticipated the birth of his first great grandchild.
He will always be remembered as an outgoing person who possessed a genuine kindness and who always put others first.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 58 years he is survived by his devoted children Linda M. Fernandes and her husband Kenneth of Easton and Thomas J. Jencyowski and his wife Luann of Norton. He was the cherished grandfather of Jennifer O’Neill and her husband Kevin of Mansfield, Brian Fernandes of Easton and Paula Jencyowski and William Jencyowski both of Norton. He was the brother of Mary MacKinnon of Florida and the late Frank Jencyowski, Steven Jencyowski, Joseph Jencyowski and Helen Lusky. Also surviving are his sister in law Ann Jencyowski of Watertown, his brother in law John Lusky of Brockton and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday May 23rd at 8:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 133 South Worcester St. Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday May 22nd from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Leo’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
