Obituary

John H. Fawcett, a 54 year resident of Lynnfield, died on Wednesday May 13, 2009 at The Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading following a quiet and courageous battle with cancer. He was 86 years old.

John was born in Wakefield on September 29, 1922. He grew up in Melrose where he attended Melrose Public Schools and graduated from Melrose High School. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on February 19, 1943 and served his country during World War ll. He was discharged on November 21, 1945 with the rank of Private First Class. John enrolled at Boston University following his dischage from the military and recieved his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Arts and Sciences and his C.A.G.S. in Education. John became the first Athletic Director of Stoneham High School and served in that position for more than 37 years. He was the first recipient of Stoneham High School Hall of Fame Award. He also worked in later years part time as a faculty manager at Danvers High School.

John is the beloved husband of the late Louise T. (Davis) Fawcett. He is the devoted brother of Harold Fawcett and his wife Dorothy of Woburn, Joan Nicholson and her husband Clifford of Acton, Maine, Marilyn Wells and her husband Frank of Melrose, Charlotte Birch and her husband Gene of Salem, New Hampshire, the late Dolores Garland, Walter, Howard, Norman and Paul Fawcett.He is the dear friend of Jean R. Mullins of Stoneham. He is the beloved son of the late Alonzo C. and Anna C. (Gilligan) Fawcett. He is the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral Mass on Friday May 15, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield. Cremation will take place following his Funeral Mass.
