Hanson- George Johnstone 83 died Saturday May 9th after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband for 30 years to Pearl (Seguin) (Guilbert) Johnstone.
Born in Toronto, Canada he was the son of the late George and Martha (MacGhee) Johnstone, Sr.
George was a WWII Veteran of the Canadian Army at Camp Borden.
In the 1950’s George moved to Rochester, New York where he became a US Citizen while raising his three children.
George was a tool & die maker by trade, and worked for General Motors in Massena, New York and for R.P. Scherer in St. Petersburg, Florida.
In 1989 George and his wife Pearl retired to Williston, FL until returning to the area in 2006.
George was an avid sport fisherman, golfer, and enjoyed stamp collecting.
He was predeceased by his first wife Margaret (Wilson) (Doucette) Johnstone, his eldest son George Johnstone III, and his son Robert “Bob” Johnstone.
In addition to his wife Pearl, he is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Johnston) Smith of Albuquerque, NM, his step-children Sandra A. Hurley of Windham, NH, Candace A. Borgeson of Hanson, and Kim G. Guilbert of Walpole, his niece Dorothy Couvier and his nephew Robert Johnstone both of Ontario, Canada, his 3 grandchildren Summer Lazenby of Kenai, AK, Vanessa Merritt of St. Patrick’s AFB, FL and Ryan Smith Billings, MT, his 4 great grandchildren Dacie Shier of AK and Arizona & Kennedy Merritt both of FL, his step-grandchildren Alison Pepper of Windham, NH, Michael Harley of Somerville, MA and Heather, Kristen, Steven Borgeson all of Hanson and his step-great grandchild Jacqueline E. Pepper.
His funeral service will be held Thursday May 14th at 12 Noon in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Calling hours will be held 2 hours prior to the service from 10 AM – 12 PM.
