Irene (Cardoza) Azevedo, 89, of Westport passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Catholic Memorial Home, Fall River. She was wife of the late Manuel P. Azevedo, Jr.
Born in Dartmouth, daughter of the late Jacintho and Maria (Barboza) Cardoza, she was a lifelong resident of Westport. Prior to retirement, she worked for the Westport Public School at the Alice A. Macomber School. Mrs. Azevedo was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. An avid gardener, who was proud of her roses, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting but most of all loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include 2 sons: Arthur Azevedo of Bridgewater, CT and Carl Azevedo of Westport; a daughter: Carol Burke of Warwick, RI; a brother: Daniel Cardoza of Westport; a sister: Laura Raposa of Westport; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Albert, Arthur, George, Leonard and Joseph Cardoza, Beatrice Rezendes and Dimentina Bento.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.
Visitation will be Wednesday 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. prior to the Mass at Potter Funeral Home.
Interment will be private.
