Obituary

Marianne T. (Price) Trundy, 77, of New Bedford died May 1, 2009 after a long period of illness. She was the wife of the late Arthur B. Trundy III and daughter of the late Mary (Miller) Price. Marianne died in Norfolk, Virginia at the home of her daughter Bridget Fields who had been caring for her.

Marianne grew up in Onset, MA and graduated from Wareham High School in 1948. Mrs. Trundy was a beloved mother who raised 10 children, who were her pride and joy and her full-time job for close to 40 years.

Mrs. Trundy was the first woman licensed as an insurance broker in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and she was a highly skilled calligrapher. She along with her husband, the late Arthur B. Trundy III, were heavily involved in JFK's election campaigns for the US Senate in the 1950's.

Marianne was an avid academic. She was a consummate reader, a dedicated student and a published poet and writer. She went back to school 40 years after graduating from Wareham High School and received her first Bachelors degree in 3 years with honors from UMass Dartmouth in Liberal Arts. She returned to UMass and received her second Bachelors Degree in English in 1999 with a Minor in Woman’s Studies. She continued to attending classes until illnesses prevented it. She developed an amazing command of the English language and had an understated wit and a wonderful sense of humor.

Marianne was a lifelong Red Sox fan and a Patriots fan. She attended her first game at Fenway Park at the age 70 and attended 23-25 games over the next 5 years. The Red Sox won on everyday that she attended at Fenway including the famous Mother's day miracle game, keeping her streak alive.

Marianne was a member of a number of organizations including but not limited to the Catholic Woman's Club, where she held the role of corresponding secretary; Diocesan Council of Catholic Woman, the Daughters of Isabella and the Wareham High School Alumni Association. She was a lifelong Catholic and most recently a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in New Bedford.

Survivors include her brother Richard Price and his wife Fran; three sons, Kevin S. of New Bern, NC, Arthur B. IV and Christopher C. both of New Bedford; seven daughters, Lynn Smith of Franklin, Bridget Fields of Norfolk, VA, Heidi Trundy of New Bedford, Erica Trundy of Fairhaven, Gretchen Trundy of Norfolk, VA, Ingrid Trundy of New Bedford, and Marianne "Pokey" Trundy of Wareham. She has 23 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and her great sense of humor and love of life lives on in all of them.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 8:30 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne at 10:15 AM. Visiting hours are omitted. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
