John F. Nowell, age 90, a lifelong resident of Winchester, passed away at home on May 3rd, surrounded by his family. Born in Winchester, he was the son of the late Roy and Jesse (MacKinnon) Nowell. Mr. Nowell was raised and educated in Winchester, and was a graduate of Winchester High School. He was employed as the Vice President of Utility Supply Company in Medford for over 30 years. A faithful Catholic, Mr. Nowell was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Parish in Winchester for many years and a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council #210 in Winchester. John was the beloved husband for 61 years of the late Margaret A. (Powers) Nowell until her passing in 2003, and the loving father of Martha A. Nowell of Flemington, NJ, Marian C. Nowell of Philadelphia, PA, Lois E. Bissen of Haverhill and the late Mary Nowell. He was also the dear brother of Margaret Kennedy, Marian Callahan and Ann MacMillen, all of Winchester, and the late Joseph and Jimmy Nowell. Mr. Nowell is further survived by his grandchildren, Graeme and Alec Nowell-Carvlin and John Evan Bissen, and several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Thurs., May 7 at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Wed. 4-8PM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
