Leo E. “Lee” Vary, 82, of Rhodes Ave., Woonsocket, died Monday at The Holiday in Manville. He was the loving husband of Laurette E. Vary to whom he was married on Sept. 17, 1949.
Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Darius and Dora (St. Jean) Vary. He was raised in Pawtucket and resided in Manville for 22 years before moving to Woonsocket.
Mr. Vary served as a medic in the Army during WWII. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign Medal.
Mr. Vary worked for Texas Instruments in Attleboro for over 30 years.
Lee was well-know locally as the owner and operator of Lee’s Driving School in Woonsocket for over 50 years.
He enjoyed traveling, boating, and fishing.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by four sons, Richard of Woonsocket, Ronald of NH, Paul of Woonsocket, and Dennis of NC, three daughters, Janet Sellers of NC, Linda Miller of Missouri, and Debra Phaneuf of Uxbridge, a brother, Raymond Vary of Acushnet, MA, and a sister, Rita Lanoue of Pawtucket. He was the brother of the late Roland Vary. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, with a service at 10:00 am in the Funeral Home.
