George R. Avilla, husband of Dorothy L. (Ross) Avilla, died at the Sachem Skilled Nursing Center in East Bridgewater on April 26, 2009.
He was 87.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Francisco Avilla.
An Army Veteran of WW II, he served with the 716th Tank Battalion.
Mr. Avilla worked as a polisher for the former Armor Bronze Co. in Taunton for over 25 years, retiring at the age of 67.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church, and a member of the Portuguese American Civic Club and VFW Post 611.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Wayne Avilla of San Francisco, CA; 2 stepsons, Richard Weigert of Warwick, RI and David Weigert of Newton, MA; a stepdaughter, Lori Clarke of Warwick, RI; and a granddaughter, Adria Avilla of San Francisco, CA.
