Obituary

Ralph V. Mongiovi, a long time Medford resident, died Friday at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center. He was 73.

Born in Gloversville, NY, and raised in Watertown, he was the son of the late Ralph F. and the late Frances (DeVilio) Mongiovi. Mr. Mongiovi served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.

For 25 years, Ralph was a Medford police officer, retiring in 1980. During his career, he was often commended for his quick action in preventing crime.

Ralph was also a very active member of the local community, especially as a member of local veteran’s organizations. He served two terms as Commander of the Italian American War Veterans post # 8. He was a member of the DAV, Chapter 12 and the American Legion Post # 45. In 1971, he served as President of the Allied Veterans Council.Ralph was also a member of the Medford Lodge of the Sons of Italy, a member of the Board of Directors for Medford Pop Warner, and active in the Community Schools Program.

He was the beloved husband of Phyllis (DePiano), devoted father of Patricia Mongiovi of Medford, Steven Mongiovi and his wife Kelly of Billerica, loving grandfather of Matthew and Andrew Mongiovi, brother of Dolores Travaglione and Richard Mongiovi both of Raynham.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday at 10 AM, followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Visiting hours Tuesday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9.
