Obituary

Jim “Poppa” Want, 75, of Manchester, died April 24, 2009, unexpectedly and peacefully at home.
He was born in Manchester, England, on Aug. 18, 1933, and was the son of Harry and Mary Frances (Whelan) Want. An engineer by training, he completed his national service in the Royal Air Force before joining Thorn/EMI to work on the first color televisions. He worked on cameras and projectors for Kodak in England, and then transfered and immigrated to Rochester, NY in 1979. He moved to the granite state upon the birth of his first grandchild in 1995. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed his family above all else. Jim delighted in all his grandchildren.

IN HIS LIFE: Family members include his wife of 55 years Barbara (Houghton) Want; 3 sons, Nicholas and his wife Leslie, of Manchester, Michael, of Buffalo, NY, Andrew and his wife Mia, of Orkney, Scotland; 5 beloved grandchildren, Allison and George, of Manchester, Lillian, of Buffalo, Lea and Eylee, of Orkney; a sister Joan, and her husband Frank Sumner, of Writtle, England; several nieces, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Frances and Eileen.
Calling hours at Lambert Funeral Home and Crematory, 1799 Elm St. corner of North St. were held Thursday, April 30, 2009.
