SALEM- Joseph Mieszczanski, 79, husband of Antonina “Sophie” (Rola) Mieszczanski, of Salem, died Thursday morning, July 3, 2003 in a local nursing home following a long illness.
Born in Kadysz, Poland, he was the son of the late Michal and Ludwika (Hrynaskiewicz) Mieszczanski. he came to the US in 1965 and settled in Salem.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a carpenter for many years.
Mr. Mieszczanski was a parishioner of the St John The Baptist Church, Salem, were he served on the bingo committee, was a usher and worked on the parish picnics and other annual events. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage, he is survived by two sons, Christopher and his wife Jeanne Mieszczanski of Chelmsford, Richard Mieszczanski and his wife, Dr. Hanna Mieszczanski of Rochester, New York, five grandchildren, Elena, John and James Mieszczanski, all of Chelmsford, Michael and Julia Mieszczanski of Rochester, New York, four sisters, Alice Burba, Maria Mikulewicz, Phyllis Mieszczanski and Laura Mieszczanski, all of Salem and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley Mieszczanski, who passed away on May 17, 2003, Feliks Mieszczanski and one sister, Franciszka Prochorski.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at St John The Baptist Church, Salem, at 10 am. Visiting hours are Monday, 4 to 8 pm. Burial is in St Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
