DRACUT - Gertrude C. "Gert" (Spenard) Affleck, 86, of Dracut, died Thursday morning April 23, 2009 in Saints Medical Center, Lowell. She was the wife of the late Maurice E. Affleck Jr who predeceased her on December 12, 2004.
Born in Lowell on September 23, 1922 she was the daughter of the late William and Evelina (Michel) Spenard. She received her education in the Lowell school system.
Mrs. Affleck devoted her life to tending to the needs of her family. In her early years she enjoyed extensive travel as a Navy bride. Additionally she enjoyed bowling, gardening and camping in her free time.
She was a communicant of the Parish of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville at Ste. Therese Church.
Surviving her are a daughter and son-in-law Maureen E. (Affleck) and her husband Robert R. Schaefer of Dracut; one granddaughter Kathryn A. Schaefer a Senior at Dracut High School; one sister Doris Hamilton of Derry, NH; one brother and sister-in-law George and Jessie Spenard of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Yvette Spenard, Pearl Capone and Roland, Lucien, Maurice and Gaston Spenard.
Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Sunday from 1 until 5 PM. Her Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday at 8 AM followed by her Funeral Mass celebrated at 9 AM in Ste. Therese Church, Dracut. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
