Obituary

Vivien A. (Yuen) Wilcox, 95, a former artist and model died of congestive heart failure on April 21, 2009 at her home in Winchester, MA, surrounded by love.

Mrs. Wilcox was born in Kansas City, MO and went on to attend West Central High School in Kansas City and William Woods University in Fulton, MO. She subsequently attended the Kansas City Art Institute, the Art Institute of Chicago and studied music, art and sculpture. She journeyed abroad to Paris, France where she continued her studies. She returned to New York City at the outbreak of World War II and began working as a commercial artist and professional model. Her career also took her to Washington, DC where she met her late husband, James Black Wilcox. They moved to the greater Boston area after they were married.

She and her husband maintained residences in Winchester, MA and Boynton Beach, FL. They were active at the Winchester and Delray Dunes Country Clubs where they enjoyed dancing and golf. Mrs. Wilcox continued to be extensively involved in art as a hobby and was a member of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. She was also a member of the Winchester Congregational Church.

Mrs. Wilcox is survived by her loving family: James Black Wilcox, Jr. of Washington, DC, Susan Nelson Wilcox of Winchester, Jane and Tom Wilson of Ridgefield, CT, Derek Halstead Wilcox of Washington, DC and Joanna Black Wilcox of Alexandria, VA.

A Memorial Service was held at the First Congregational Church of Winchester, 21 Church St., on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 11:30 AM. Interment took place in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her memory be made to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02115 or to VNA Hospice Care, 100 Sylvan Rd. G-500, Woburn, MA 01801.
