Yvonne M. Fontaine, 84, formerly of Woonsocket and Cumberland, died Saturday at the Fairfax Nursing Center in Fairfax, Virginia. She was the wife of the late Rene R. Fontaine who died in 1989.
Born in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late William “Bill” and Exaverine (Prefontaine) Carle. She was raised in Cumberland and resided in Woonsocket for many years.
In May of 2006 she moved to Fairfax, VA to be closer to her family and led an active life there until recently.
Mrs. Fontaine was a loving mother and homemaker who provided diligent care of her Downs Syndrome son for the past 45 years. She was an active member of the Northern Rhode Island Association for Retarded Citizens.
She is survived by two sons, Paul V. Fontaine and his wife Mary, and Jacques J. Fontaine, all of Fairfax, VA. She is also survived by her twin grandchildren, Julia and William Fontaine, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jeanne Poirier.
Her funeral will be Friday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Visiting hours are Thursday from 6- 8 pm.
