Griffith E. Jones, Jr., 83, died April 19, 2009 at the LifeCare Center of West Bridgewater after a brief illness. He was the husband of Eleanor M. (Smith) Jones. Born in St. Joseph, Missouri on July 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Griffith E. Jones, Sr. and Grace (Griffin) Jones. The family moved to Lincoln, NE in 1935. Mr. Jones was a Veteran of the US Navy Air Corps during WWII. He attended Carson-Newman College in TN, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska in 1948. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and Mensa. He was a resident of Easton for over 40 years.
Mr. Jones was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for over 40 years and was Vice President of its subsidiary, Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston. He was a Fellow in the Life Management Institute and served on many inter company committees. He retired in 1989. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, golf, reading, computers and Nebraska Cornhuskers Football.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 5 daughters, Catherine J. Denholm of Wrentham, Kathleen J. Damon of Rehoboth, Gwenyth R. Butler and Alison A. Graves both of CA and Adrien E. McInerney of VA. He is also survived by a sister, Frances J. Clark of CA, 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 2 nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, April 24 at 10:30 AM Visiting Hours Thursday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Griffith’s name may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, 01701.
