Angelo Joseph Oddo, Sr. "Pops/Pop-Pop", age 80, of Mystic, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a long illness of COPD and lung cancer.
He was born Dec. 2, 1928 in New London, CT, the son of Joseph Oddo and Anna (Lamphere) Oddo-Watrous.
Angelo was a hard-working man who worked as a mechanic for over 40 years before retiring in 1991. During his retirement, he enjoyed tinkering with small engines in lawn mowers and tractors. He had a great love for all animals and provided a loving home to many strays over the years.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Betty (Rogers) and five children: sons Paul and his wife Roni of Ledyard, Mark and his wife Karen of Groton, Angelo Jr. and his wife Lynnette of Ledyard; daughters Lisa and her husband John Biancarosa of Groton and Dawn and her husband Ray Silva of North Myrtle Beach, SC; and seven grandchildren: Ericca Oddo of Groton, Paul Oddo of New London, Ryan Oddo of Mystic, Brian Oddo of New London, Benjamin Oddo of Ledyard, Alissa Biancarosa of Orange Grove, TX and Dillon Silva of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, and four brothers, Charlie Oddo of Montville, Acie Oddo of Mystic, Ernie Bogue of Montville, Earl Watrous of Bozrah and his favorite niece, Mary Greene of Moosup. He was predeceased by his sister Florence Alexander and two brothers, George Oddo and Johnny Oddo.
There will be a celebration of Angelo's life at his home at 230 Cow Hill Road in Mystic on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 2-5pm.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made in his memory to CT Humane Society, 169 Old Colchester Rd, Quaker Hill CT 06375 or Hospice, 227 Dunham St., Norwich CT 06360. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
