Belmont----Harold “Sarge” F. Watts, Sr., 87 of 24 Birchwood Lane died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia Saturday April 18, 2009.
Sarge was born February 16, 1922 in Hudson, NH the son of William and Ida (Westen) Watts. He had been a resident of Belmont since 1985 coming from Manchester.
Sarge had served 24 years in the US Army during WWII and Korea. He was a member of Battery C 7th Field Artillery Battalion and was a member of the Big Red One since June of 1940.
After Sarge retired he lived in Manchester until he moved to Winnisquam and was the owner of Sarge’s Country Store for over 20 years. In Manchester was had been employed at PT Parts in Manchester and later Barrett Equipment in Hooksett.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish in Belmont. He was a life time member of the VFW and an Honorary Member of the Winnisquam Fire Dept.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Geraldine R. “Gerry” (Hunkins) Watts of Belmont; 4 sons Harold Watts, Jr. of Pembroke, Robert Watts of Greenville, S.C., Donald Watts of Winchendon, Mass. and John Watts of Concord; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother William “Bill” Watts of Manchester; 2 sisters Charlene
Giella of San Antonio, Fl. and Phylis Maza of Temple, NH; many nephews and nieces. Beside his parents he was predeceased by a daughter Catherine Ann Seaward who died in 2004.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday April 21, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia using the Carriage House entrance.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Parish Belmont Wednesday April 22, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the NH State Veterans Cemetery Boscawen.
