Obituary

WORCESTER___Joseph J. Zukowsky, 70, of Worcester, died Friday April 17, 2009 in his home.

He leaves a brother, Paul Zukowsky of East Kingston, N.H., a sister, Mary Lou Price of Worcester; a nephew, Robert Vivlamore, two nieces, Mary Ann Suprenant and Sheila Birr, fourteen great nieces and nephews, one great great nephew, one aunt, one uncle and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Vivlamore and three nephews, Joseph Vivlamore, Michael Vivlamore and Sean Zukowsky. He was born in Shenandoah, PA., a son of Benny and Agnes (Zakiewicz) Zukowsky and has lived in Worcester for most of his life.

Mr. Zukowsky worked in the Electrical field for many years and later retired from St. Mary’s Schools. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Joseph was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and was a former lector. He was a volunteer worker for the church bingo program and was a crossing guard for the school before retiring. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Polish Naturalization and Independent Club and was a member of the Polish American Veterans of World War II.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 21 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday, April 20 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Members of Polish American Veterans of World War II will meet at 6:30 p.m. during calling hours to conduct their ritual.
