Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Martha L. (Story) Anderson, 83, of 6R Langsford Street, died early Tuesday morning, April 14, 2009 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Kenneth R. Anderson, who died in March of 2008. They had shared fifty-five years of marriage.
Born in Ipswich on July 29, 1925, Martha Anderson was the daughter of the late Lyndon and Florence (Price) Story of Essex. She was raised in Essex and attended local schools, graduating from Gloucester High School in 1943. She had been a resident of Lanesville in Gloucester since 1952.
Mrs. Anderson owned and operated Anderson’s Florist Shop in Lanesville for many years. Following retirement, Martha and Ken enjoyed driving “up-country” for hiking and mountain climbing, and they also traveled extensively throughout Europe. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for her extended family, and she especially loved hosting Sunday dinners or summer cookouts in her back yard overlooking Lane’s Cove and Ipswich Bay.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen A. Webber and her husband, Peter, of Rockport, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark S. Anderson and Craig R. Anderson and his wife, Lauren, all of Gloucester, and a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Gloria Story of Essex. She also leaves four beloved grandsons, Ben and Matthew Webber, Evan M. Anderson, and Craig J. Anderson, as well as several nieces and nephews and many dear friends, including the staff and her fellow members of the PACE Program in Gloucester. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen Kopanon.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville. Those wishing to make contributions in memory of Martha Anderson are invited by her family to donate to the American Cancer Society, the Elder Service Plan of the North Shore, Hospice of the North Shore.
