Haig Jaffarian, 83, a longtime resident of Worcester died peacefully Wednesday, April 15, 2009. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Alice (Najarian) Jaffarian; son, Martin Jaffarian and girlfriend, Lorick Mehrabian of Virginia; daughter Lisa Haggerty and husband Christopher, and cherished granddaughter, Julie Marie Haggerty who brought him much joy; brother, Zaven Jaffarian and nephew Thomas Jaffarian of Northboro. He was predeceased by his brother Souren Jaffarian. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Souren and Victoria(Hoogasian) Jaffarian. He graduated from Classical High School and served in the Army during WWII. Haig retired from Morgan Construction in 1986 after 40 years of service in drafting and engineering. He was a member of Armenian Holy Trinity Apostolic Church and Morgan Construction Retiree's Club. He is remembered as an avid, organized gardener after being a devotee of body building as a young man which culminated in his being named Mr. Worcester in 1947. He enjoyed playing the violin and singing at church weddings and social functions. In his retirement years, he was known as "the walker" for his long distance jaunts all around north Worcester County.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21. A calling hour will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Armenian Holy Trinity Apostolic Church, 635 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.
