WORCESTER-John P. Needham, 80, of Worcester, died Monday, April 13th in UMass-Memorial Hospital. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Mary L. (Egan) Needham; his son, Thomas J. Needham and his wife Bianca of Worcester; a daughter, Mary Pat, wife of David Martella of Worcester; two sisters, Mary, wife of William Hoey of Marshfield and Ann Coleman of Worcester; three grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan and Gianna; and his daughter in law, Christina L. Troiano. His son Kevin P. Needham, a brother Rev. Msgr. Thomas J. Needham and a sister Julia Needham predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Thomas J. and C. Agnes (O’Malley) Needham; and was a graduate of St. John’s High School. Mr. Needham served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, and had worked at the Worcester County Jail and House of Correction before his retirement. He was a long time member of Our Lady of the Angels Parish, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Knights of Columbus, the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association and the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. John enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish sports fan, and enjoyed working in his yard.
The funeral is Friday, April 17th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, April 16th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
