Matthew "Matty" Ryan Oliveira, 13, of Fairhaven died Sunday June 29, 2003 at Hasbro Children's Hospital. He was the beloved son of Matthew J. and Kathleen (Ryan) Oliveira.
Matty was born in New Bedford, Mass., and had lived in Fairhaven for all of his life. He was a recent graduate of Hastings Middle School in Fairhaven and was to enter Fairhaven High School in September.
He was an active member of the Fairhaven Recreation Center and the New Bedford Boys & Girls Club.
An outstanding athlete, Matty enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and football. He and his father ran in the Fairhaven Father & Son Road Race this year.
Matty was a fun-loving individual who touched all that he met. He was an organ-donor after his death.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Alyson K. Oliveira of Fairhaven; his paternal grandfather, Joaquim P. Oliveira, III, of Fairhaven; his maternal grandparents, Daniel and Maureen Ryan of Fairhaven; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.He was the grandson of the late Shirley M. Oliveira.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday July 3, 2003 at 10 AM in St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett, Wednesday July 2, 2003 from 4-8 PM.
