Obituary

METHUEN: Ada E. (Butterfield) Price, age 93, a Methuen resident, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Nevins Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Methuen.
She was the wife of Richard J. Price, who died August 16, 1999.
Born in Newburyport on October 30, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Edith (Goodwin) Butterfield.
Ada was raised in Methuen and North Billerica. She attended Billerica Schools and graduated from the former Howe High School. Ada later attended the Tewksbury Hospital and Infirmary School of Nursing, graduating with the Class of 1937.
Following graduation, she began a career as a registered nurse working there and at the Metropolitan State Hospital in Boston. Later in her life she worked at hospitals in Pennsylvania and New York, ultimately returning to the Metropolitan State Hospital until her retirement.
Ada resided and raised her family in western Pennsylvania then lived in several places throughout the country before returning to New England. Prior to moving to Methuen in January of 2000, she lived for a number of years in Westford, MA then in Manchester, NH.
Mrs. Price was devoted to her family and active in many of the communities in which she lived. She was a talented seamstress, loved to cook and bake, and created many fine articles of apparel and baked goods for her family and friends.
In earlier years, she was a Group Leader for the 4-H Program in her community of Emporium, Pennsylvania teaching the art of sewing. In addition, she volunteered her nursing knowledge and experience to the Well- Baby Clinic in that town. Over the years, she was active in many of the women’s groups and churches in communities where she lived.
Ada was loving and compassionate in her attentiveness to others and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra E. McIntosh and her husband Marvin of Cincinnati, OH and Elizabeth A. Morancy of Methuen; two grandchildren, Paul T. Gamache and his wife Marina Gamache and Jonathan P. Morancy and his wife Kerry Ford Morancy; her great grandson, Elijah C. Morancy; also a number of nieces and nephews.
Ada was the sister of the late Barbara Maguire, Duncan, Donald, Harold,and Romela Butterfield.
Calling hours Wednesday, April 15th, from 7-8 p.m. and Thursday, April 16th, from 10-11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, followed by her funeral services to be held at the funeral home. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Nevins Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 10 Ingalls Court, Methuen, MA 01844 or to a charity of the donor's choice are suggested.
