Obituary



Karen M. Kearney – West, a resident of Abington, formerly of Avon, passed away suddenly on Monday March 30, 2009 at The Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital. She was 37 years old. Karen had been battling a chronic disease called Transverse Myelitis.

Karen was born in Stoughton, Massachusetts on October 13, 1971. She was a graduate of Randolph High School and later attended The University Of Massachusetts - Boston where she studied Political Science and History. Karen was a former Teamster with the UPS Local #25 Union Workers Association. She was employed as a Dispatcher by both AAA Southern New England and Xpressman Courier Company in Braintree,MA. She was also employed as an Office Manager with a Brockton Company until 2003 when she was disabled due to her illness.

She loved camping and had been able to visit and enjoy many campsites all over New England and Canada. Her favorites included, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Karen was an avid fan of lighthouses. She had the opportunity to visit many of them while on her camping journey’s which took her along the New England and Canadian coasts. She was also interested in Ancient History, particularly Ancient Egypt. Karen also loved nature and animals.

Karen is survived by her husband Steven West and her daughter Kayla West both of Abington, her parents, Carol A. and William F. Harmon of North Easton, her brother Michael Kearney and his wife Lynn of Halifax and her sister, Teresa Kearney of Haiku, Hawaii.

A funeral mass to celebrate Karen’s life will be held on Tuesday April 14, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Michael Church, 87 N. Main St. (Rt. 28 ) Avon. Burial will follow in Avon Cemetery.
