Obituary

Daniel F. Walsh, 90, passed away at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere on April 9th, 2009. He was born in Malden on July 30th, 1918 to his parents Daniel and Julia (Mulcahy) Walsh. Dan has been a life-long resident of Malden. He is a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1937. From 1941 to 1945, Daniel served his country honorably as a sergeant in the United States Army. Upon his discharge from the Army, he obtained a position with the United States Post Office, serving as a railway mail clerk on the Boston & Maine Railroad. He remained with the Post Office for many years, retiring from Boston. Upon his retirement from the Post Office, Dan went to work as a courier for State Street Bank in Boston. He remained at the position for 13 years. Daniel has been a life-long parishioner at Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden where he was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the 60 Club. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Dan had many hobbies including woodworking and camping. He enjoyed being part of Red Sox Nation and was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football. He is survived by his wife Mary D. (Hanley) Walsh and by his children Robert J. Walsh and his wife Mary Anne of Malden and Loretta Walsh and her fiancé Patrick Caylor of Centerville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Daniel was predeceased by his siblings Sr. Sheila Walsh, SSND and Thomas J. Walsh. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Tuesday April 14th at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday April 13th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center Resident Activity Fund, 204 Proctor Ave., Revere, MA 02151.
